What is a CSA?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture.

This is an exciting trend that is reinvigorating many small farms and providing a way for tens of thousands of consumers to get connected with a farm in their neighborhood. Our friend summed it up as an “Adopt-A-Farm” program which is on the right track. We see it more as a partnership between grower and eater with MANY potential benefits for everyone. It works like this:

You join our farm (we hope!) by purchasing a share before the growing season begins.

That way, we know how much income to expect and we’ll have the needed resources early in the season when we have the bulk of our expenses. For that payment, you’ll get a weekly amount of fresh produce at our farm shop. You can expect 26 weeks of food, Memorial Day to Thanksgiving! You also get to be a part of the farm — if you want to — in a variety of ways.

What’s in your share?

We do our absolute best to grow an abundance of organic vegetables, berries, flowers, and herbs for you.

We plan on distributing a lot of food but the amounts will invariably change from year to year. For example, some years, due to insects, weather, deer, and human error (it happens occasionally!), you may get fewer beets and onions than you would have hoped for but you may also get more beans and lettuce due to the same factors.

CSAs work!

That’s why there are currently over 1,500 CSAs all across the country. CSAs produce your food in your community dramatically reducing the time and energy that it takes to get the food from the field to your table. That gives you better nutrition, variety and value.

This isn’t processed, “pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds” food. We grow the real deal! Click here to learn more about the food we grow. But it is good food — really good food, and we think that you’ll be sad when December rolls around and you have to get your produce from the supermarket (unless you’ve been doing a little stocking up!).
