Our Urban Youth Initiatives programs seek to provide opportunities for children living in Trenton to join us for summer camp or school field trips. The following programs provide children with memorable outdoor experiences at no cost to their families or schools.

Summer Camp Scholarships
Our summer camp program plugs kids into nature! Play, learn, and get muddy while exploring our 230-acre farm with our experienced and responsible staff. Our farm, creek, meadow, forest, pond, and garden hold new experiences and tons of fun for every child. All of our campers will have a blast exploring the farm through guided explorations and choice activities which can include caring for the animals, games and sports, cooking activities, arts and crafts, and more.
Our scholarship program is available for campers ages 6-11 who live in Trenton and whose families qualify for free/reduced lunch. Transportation is provided from select locations around the city of Trenton. Campers may join us on scholarship for one week per summer. Space is limited, and qualified campers are granted scholarships on a first-come, first-served basis.
Unit of Study Field Trips
In 2010, Fernbrook Farms Education Center expanded our Urban Youth Initiatives to provide programs to children throughout the school year. Our goal is to help 4th and 5th grade Trenton students get outdoors and experience the wonders of nature first-hand.
When your school participates in our Unit of Study program, Fernbrook Farms Environmental Education Center come to your class to teach two hands-on lessons before your field trip, and then your students join us at Fernbrook Farms for a full-day field trip overflowing with fun, engaging activities. Finally, our instructors visit your classroom once again for a wrap-up and reflection session.
Teachers have the choice of five Unit of Study Programs to coordinate with their own curriculum:
Wetlands Study, Ecosystems Study, Forest Ecology Study, Farm Study, and Adaptations Study. You can read more about bringing these programs to your school in the Unit of Study section of our website. In some cases, depending on available funding, we are able to provide this program for free to Trenton Public Schools.
