During week 1 of the Young Stewards Program, campers will explore New Jersey’s watersheds & wetland systems. The group will be traveling from the coastal wetlands to the freshwater watersheds to investigate the importance of water for humans, plants and animals. In addition to off-farm field trips, Monday and Friday will be spent on the farm exploring the creeks of Fernbrook’s watershed: Bacon’s Run & the Fern Brook.
In the past we have:
- Participated in a Water Quality Assessment Program at the Delaware & Raritan Canal State Park.
- Kayaked the wetlands of Stone Harbor and visit the Wetlands Institute with a naturalist guide to learn about saltwater wetlands and their importance for coastal marine life.
- Kayaked Union Lake to explore the lake habitat and tributaries.
- Paddled the local watershed system of Crosswicks Creek from Watson Woods to Bordentown Beach.
